Thing 1-A

Hi! My name is Karen and I am the media specialist at HES. I have lived in Winder all my life. I see all 42 classes in grades k-5 during the school year. I have been at HES for 11 years; the past three years I have been the media specialist. I teach information literacy skills and just about anything else that the teacher requests. Our school received Promethean boards this year so I have been learning a lot about using this new technology.

I was fortunate enough to be able to stay home with my children when they were little -- that was my first and most important career, this is my second! I love what I do and want to continue learning as much as possible. I am taking this course so I can stay updated with the latest technology and be able to pass that on to the teachers and students. Technology is not going away, it just keeps getting better and I want to make sure that I can keep up!

And that's the truth of it. It's constantly evolving, and right now we have a rather large gap between what educators know about it and what students can already do with it. Hopefully, going through a course such as this will help in forming a bridge over that gap.

  2. Hi Karen,
My name is Meggan and I am at Yargo Elementary. I understand your need to keep up. I feel like we have to be learning about new technology all of time or we will get left behind! :) mrsmcnally0809.blogspot.com

  3. Hi Karen,

Reading blogs like we are doing in the class is new for me. It is very interesting to see what folks are talking about but what strikes me initially about this is the enormous amount of time that it takes! Maybe after I learn about setting up a reader, it will be easier. In the blogs that Caroline lists as options for us to read is one where students are blogging with an author they like. This is the one at http://blog.woodward.edu/ps_edmison/?p=281.
I'm sure that experience was pretty exciting for the kids!

I have had the experience of Jan Brett responding to an e-mail - about 2 years ago!
